Wipsee – Good practices for Climate Crisis

Raise awareness

Policy: It is essential to raise awareness on the urgency of the climate crisis. We want to teach them that every small action is important and that each individual can do their part. In this case it also means to change some of our habits, to unlearn and learn new, more eco-friendly and healthier habits. It is especially important to focus our attention on young people, indeed the younger generations cast a critical eye on the climate crisis.

Good practice
A Erasmus+ KA105 Youth Exchange project in 2 editions to promote more eco friendly ways of travelling : greener means of transport, mindfulness of consumption, recycling and upcycling. First edition with a bulgarian partner (organization “For You”: https://www.instagram.com/p/CHFNPLllaid/ the youngsters met in Bulgaria and took part in activities with a goal in mind “reach 0 waste”. https://www.instagram.com/p/CGemWIOnT9X/ Project funded by Erasmus+ Youth. The practice is completely transferable as the actions can be applied to everyday life and to other European or local project. Indeed, there is a 2nd edition of this project on the way and will take place in 2021 with a Lithuanian partner (Tavo) and a Greek partner (United Societies of Balkans). The output of this project is the “Guide to Zero Waste: 5Rs: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rot” that gives clues on how to learn new habits in everyday life that are healthier both for us and the earth.
Territorial  scale: On european level, with French, Bungarian and Greeks partners.

Share Knowledge

Policy: A key action to fight climate crisis is to share your knowledge and spread it in a peaceful and non violent way. It is crucial that those with less experience can benefit from valuable knowledge. Especially important nowadays with the spread of fake news, of scepticism towards climate change and the lack of accessible information.

Good practice
MEL Wipsee has among their values and missions to help, support and guide organizations developing their activities around sustainability, openness to the world, peace and non violence. We helped a young organization (https://www.instagram.com/eco_team__teen.asso/) carried by young people. They want to implement eco-friendly activities and we guide them in planning these activites, establish relationships with local stakeholders, public presentation, funds research, creation of management tools and among other activities: the creation of a shared garden. (https://www.instagram.com/p/CIVNvllHNsz/) Proving support and advice is a long term mission and a totally transferable activity, although it has to be adapted to each audience.

Collective actions

Policy: We strongly encourage people to gather forces, skills and energies to have bigger results. We believe that the fight against climate crisis can only be achieved if everyone does their share, even if it’s a simple contribution like being mindful about one’s consumption, recycling, cleaning, and making eco responsible choices. Small steps achieved by many people can eventually have an impact. An very important policy is then to open a space for synergy and collectiveness.

Good practice
During the Erasmusdays in October 2020, MEL Wipsee organized a trash collect on a local beach which gathered about 20 people, from all ages and backgrounds. This collect was organized in collaboration with a local partner Surfrider https://www.instagram.com/surfrider/
This action benefitted from communication and dissemination in the framework of the Erasmusdays: https://www.erasmusdays.eu/event/action-nettoyage-des-dechets-la-chaine-internationale-erasmus/
In addition to this local trash collect we launch an international action by mobilizing our european partners. Our bulgarian partner For You and italien partner Jump In also organized trash collects in their local areas: https://www.instagram.com/p/CGh7_L5Hb2o/
This action is completely transferable, to any kind of area (city, countryside, seaside) and audience, at any time.
Territorial scale: Both on local territory, in the Landes and at European level : France + Bulgaria + Italy

Common knowledge

To improve knowledge about the topic: Introduce the topic in a way that is open to opposite opinions and point of view. Educate in a respectful and mindful way. Respect the fact that people might be ignorant about a given topic and commit to teach and not bring down people.
To improve knowledge on qualitative and quantitative thrustworthy resources: Be knowledgeable about what you want to teach. Double check facts, sources and consider arguments from all sides on a given matter. Make trustworthy resources avaiilable through correct referencing and on your various channels.
Improve knowledge about equality, dignity of people, social inclusion and legality: Make equality, dignity and inclusion the core of all activities and taking them into consideration at all times. Promote equality, dignity and inclusion on medias and networks. 
Develop an integrated knowledge system to formulate and evaluate development policies: Keep track of all actions and practices to ensure the transferability, adaptability of them in order to develop knowledge and skills. Thoroully report and follow up every action.
Ensure the availability, access and networking of data and information: Communicate and disseminate widely through media and networks. Use both local networks and international and institutionnal networks.

Education, awareness, communication

Turning knowledge into skills, providing people with a way to convert experience into skills, such as transversal skills thanks to certificates, Europass, badges…
Promote education: always have in mind self-improvement and help other improve. Be open minded and find an efficient way to transfer your knowledge and skills onto other people.
Promote and apply solutions for development: officialise your practices for them to get recognition and visibility (labels, certificates, participation to national or international events).
Communication: Inclusive communication for all types of networks (email, newsletters, social media, institutional channels).
